Machine Shop: Machined Busbar Jointing Sleeves for HV Power Fittings

The Problem

New aluminium busbar jointing sleeves were required for a high-voltage power fitting application.

 

The supplied pipe sections needed to fit inside the busbars at the joins, but the outside diameter had to be reduced first. Without the correct machined diameter, the sleeves would not locate properly inside the busbar sections before welding.

The Engineering Solution

Pinney Engineering Services machined the aluminium pipe sections to specification, reducing the outside diameter by 3mm across each sleeve.

 

A total of 39 busbar jointing sleeves were produced, using both CNC and manual lathes to complete the job accurately and efficiently. The video can be seen on our LinkedIn page here: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/pinney-engineering

 

Once fitted inside the busbar joins, the sleeves could be welded into position to help create a strong, rigid connection between sections.

The Resulting Machined Busbar Jointing Sleeves

The finished machined busbar jointing sleeves were quality checked, stacked, and packed ready for delivery.

This job is a good example of practical machine shop work where accuracy, repeatability, and clean fitment matter, especially when the finished component forms part of a high-voltage power fitting assembly.
