The Problem

A Landcruiser exhaust manifold had bowed by around 2mm, making it difficult to seal properly against the engine.

When an exhaust manifold is no longer flat, exhaust gases can escape at the mating surface. This can cause leaks, noise, poor sealing, gasket failure, and ongoing issues if the manifold is simply refitted without correcting the surface.

Landcruiser exhaust manifold set up on milling machine for resurfacing by Pinney Engineering Services.

The Engineering Solution

Pinney Engineering Services set the exhaust manifold up in the milling machine and machined the face back to a flat surface.

This Machine Shop process removed the distortion from the sealing face so the manifold could sit correctly against the engine again, and allow the gasket to seal properly.

Machined Landcruiser exhaust manifold face after resurfacing to restore a flat sealing surface.

The Machine Shop Landcruiser Exhaust Manifold Resurfacing Result

The Landcruiser exhaust manifold was resurfaced and returned to a flat sealing face.

By machining the manifold instead of replacing it, the customer had a practical repair option that restored fitment and helped solve the exhaust sealing issue properly. No new parts were required, and the cost of the machining was substantially less than replacement parts.
