The Problem

The customer needed a replacement adaptor plate for a Toyota 2JZ engine setup using an A340 bell housing to suit a Powerglide gearbox, but the part couldn’t be sourced locally.

Estimated lead times were approximately 4–6 weeks, creating unnecessary delays for the build.

Adaptor plates like these need accurate machining and precise hole alignment to ensure correct assembly between engine and transmission components, especially in high-performance driveline applications.

The Powerglide gearbox is a popular two-speed automatic transmission commonly used in drag racing and high-horsepower performance builds due to its strength, simplicity, and reliability under extreme load.

The Solution

The customer supplied an original adaptor plate sample, allowing us to reverse engineer the component and produce a local replacement through CNC machining.

A machining program was created to accurately reproduce the adaptor plate with the required dimensions, tolerances, and mounting alignment for the Toyota 2JZ engine and Powerglide conversion setup.

Manufacturing the part locally eliminated long supplier lead times and gave the customer a faster turnaround for the project.

The CNC Machining Adaptor Result

The finished CNC Machined Adaptor Plate was produced ready for installation, with the new Pinney manufactured plate shown above the original supplied sample.

Jobs like this highlight the advantage of local CNC machining and reverse engineering services when specialised performance or motorsport components are difficult to source quickly.
