Industrial Component Refurbishment: Quarry Truck Steering Hanger Repair

The Problem

A quarry haulage truck came in with a worn steering hanger, which was affecting the steering of the vehicle.

 

On heavy quarry trucks, worn steering components can quickly become a serious issue. Excess movement in the hanger can affect steering accuracy, increase wear on connected parts, and take the truck off the road if left too long.

 

Replacing the full component would have been expensive, so the aim was to refurbish the existing steering hanger and return it to service quickly.

The Engineering Solution

The steering hanger was set up on the milling machine and line bored to suit new wear bushes. New bushes were then machined on the lathe, pressed into the hanger, and the assembly was trial fitted to ensure correct fitment and installation.

 

This job combined industrial component refurbishment, machine shop work, and heavy equipment repair to restore the worn component rather than replace it.

The Industrial Component Refurbishment Result

The haulage company was able to reuse the existing quarry truck steering hanger, saving thousands of dollars in replacement genuine spare parts.
